When new owners took over Trussbilt, a US supplier of security installations, they immediately saw the need to implement an email security and internet access plan for the organization. Trussbilt wanted to invest in products that offered them a complete solution and that were easy to install and administer but, more importantly, that were suitable for a company of its size and infrastructure. After testing a variety of solutions, Trussbilt found GFI Software's products to be a perfect fit for its needs.
Within the first few weeks of ownership, it was clear to Trussbilt's new management that the company needed to have better control over its email and internet access. According to Mark Harvey, the company's IT Manager, they required a monitoring system for internet access as well as anti-spam and anti-virus measures to secure their network and workstations and "protect the information flowing through the company".
Being a medium-sized company, Trussbilt did not want products that were either "too cumbersome to install and maintain or aimed at much larger companies than ours", Mr. Harvey said. After carrying out some trials of products that were on the market at the time, they opted for GFI.
"We selected the GFI products based on the reviews and advice from forums like MSExchange.org and ISAServer.org," Mr. Harvey said. He added that another key reason was that GFI's software is designed with the SMB in mind and the product features offered an excellent fit for the company.
Trussbilt chose three products: GFi MailEssentials to ensure that email received was free of spam; GFI WebMonitor to give IT administrators full control over the use of the internet within the organization; and GFI MailSecurity to protect the network from viruses and other malicious exploits.
"Implementation was very easy. Instructions were thorough and easy to follow whilst the upgrading of GFI products is among the easiest I have dealt with," he explained.
The benefits were noticed "within a day or two" with an immediate decrease in spam volumes thanks to GFI MailEssentials, while GFI MailSecurity has set the management team's minds at rest that emails are cleaned of viruses and other exploits. GFI WebMonitor delivered immediate results: "The ability to easily blacklist sites made the web monitoring extremely easy and allowed us to retain control over web browsing activities. After the initial setup we were able to realize a dramatic drop in the amount of inappropriate sites that users had been previously browsing. There was some strong reaction by a minority of employees - mostly the ones that are now being blocked!"
Concluding, Mr. Harvey said: "Working with GFI has been a pleasure. The products work effectively and are hassle-free to administer. Tech Support is fast and very knowledgeable and the Sales Department has always answered any questions I have."
